Who is the beneficiary charity in 2024? The Michelle Jurd Trust who focus their funds towards providing outdoor opportunities for the youths and veterans of Cumbria.

What happens at the start?

When we meet at the start you'll have a chance to play the tombola and enter the raffle. We will also have The Lake District We will deliver a safety brief and any event specific information. You'll also hear from the charity. We urge people to come to the start of the festival rather than going direct to the mountain if possible. There will be a chance to use toilets at the start, as well as buy snacks and cold drinks.

How does the event work?

After the briefing, you will walk 1.5 miles along the Cumbria Way to the base of Catbells. The trail is easy to follow and will take anywhere between 60-90 minutes to walk.

Once at Catbells, you will head up as far as you wish. We line the whole mountain from the bottom to the top. What this means is people of all ages and abilities can join, but sadly due to the nature of the rugged paths it isn't wheelchair or pram friendly.

About 30-40 minutes after the sun sets it is usually dark enough to light up the mountain and our pro-photographers will be able to get their snaps. Once this is complete you'll descend carefully and head back to Keswick. Nichol End Marine will be open until about 10:30pm. Dogs are more than welcome to join in the event, but please make sure you clear up after them.

Preparing for the event:

The very nature of the event means you'll be standing around on a potentially windy mountainside for a while. Pack more layers than you think you need, snacks and warm fluids. You participate in the festival at your own risk, but a safety team of marshals will be on hand on the mountain to help you if needed.
