Helvellyn via Striding Edge

Big thanks to Ed for guiding Rich and Natalie up Helvellyn today. Here's what he had to say...

'A rather wet day was had with returning clients Natalie and Rich as we tackled Helvellyn via the edges today. A gentle start allowed the winds to ease up a bit by the time we reached hole in the wall and with the direction we were largely sheltered for most of the day. The rain eased off at times teasing us to get rid of waterproofs only to start up again if we dared to change.

Following a brief excursion to take in the views from Birkhouse Moor we ascended into cloud for a viewless crossing of a wet and slippery Striding Edge. This was tackled with care along with discussions on perceived and actual risk and route selection for the conditions.

After summiting with a sound track provided by a group from Manchester that kept breaking into song we descend via Swirral Edge and emerged out of the cloud to a view of Red Tarn with smiles all around.

A recovery session in the spa at Lodore Falls awaited Rich and Natalie to finish off their day and we look forward to welcoming them back when they join LMG north of the border later in the year to attempt Ben Nevis.'
