Back home and drying out after an expedition with 7 of this year's Mountain Leader trainees. We run a scheme through the year to provide workshops, group management opportunities and mentoring to aspirant mountain leaders and toward the end of the season we host an expedition which replicates the one they'd undertake on their final assessment. It was a trip of two halves, with Tuesday being super hot and Wednesday being super soggy! Our journey took us from Stonethwaite up and over the mixed terrain of Bessyboot and Glaramara, taking in random features as we went. We camped at Sprinkling Tarn where we also enjoyed a few hours of night navigation. Wednesday saw us journey across the Climbers traverse on Great Gable and then around the back of Haystacks which really is quite a complex spot to be. Back down to Stonethwaite and that hailed the end of the expedition. A mentally and physically tiring time out for everyone but great to see some excellent mountain leaders in the making.
