Well the Lakeland 3000's strikes again!
These 8 great chaps were raising money for Macmillan Caring Locally and fancied doing something a little bit more out there. The L3K is 45 continious miles with 2,500m+ ascent over England's 4 3000ft peaks.
We set off at 5:55pm on Friday and made amazing progress to the top of Skiddaw (just 2 hours!) Back down in Keswick James took over the guiding and the rain arrived. A quick stop at the support vehicle in Rosthwaite and the group were off into the central fells with eyes on Scafell. As they approached Scafell the rain stopped and so James upped the adventure level and took them carefully up Lords Rake, a real highlight for the group. Two down, there is now an agonising descent down foxes tarn followed by the need to immedietly gain it all back onto Scafell Pike. Throughout all this they were enjoying a beautiful dawn and then inversion. The day was now bright and clear but the tough section to Wythburn awaited. This undulating grassy and boggy section saps energy and prevents any fast progress. This was not a highlight. When the group reached me at Wythburn for Pasta bake and snacks 5 dropped out. They were visibly broken. This however is very normal for the L3K! I took over again and led 3 of the chaps up and over Helvellyn but as we reached Swirls they had already decided the plug would be pulled - but with 4 peaks in the bag. Ironically our stopping time was 5:54pm! A massive well done to everyone for leaving nothing out there physcially, you all did your best. This really is a beast of a challenge! Huge thanks to James for being a guiding machine also!
If you or a group fancy the L3K then get in touch. I do however recommend challenges such as the 24 Peaks or our L3K Sunset challenge first! #LivefortheNow
