Today I was out with 9 members of the Durham University Hill Walking Society running winter skills course. It's our second year running courses for them and they're always a great bunch to be out with. From Swirls we ventured up the zig zags and under Brown Cove Crags. Here we played around with kicking steps and using an ice axe before climbing out the back of the coire towards the northern ridge of Lower Man. Now on some harder snow we popped the crampons on and bagged the summit of Helvellyn. Here we bumped into LMG James who was running another winter skills course for us (pics to follow). We then descended back down the main path whilst being treated to a golden sunset across the fells. #LivefortheNow #winterskills #lakedistrict
