We certainly get involved in all sorts...and we love it! Thanks to Ian and Richard for repping LMG today as David raised funds for LOROS Hospice. Here's what Ian had to say about the day...
'I have just spent a very rewarding and humbling day with David Needham, along with Andrew and John from #LOROS Hospice in Leicestershire. David, who suffers from Motor Neurone Disease has spent both yesterday and today attempting to complete the #Yorkshire3Peaks in a specially-built Mountain Trike.
Today, Richard Hazelby and I had the chance, courtesy of Matt Le Voi at #LakelandMountainGuides, to join the three of them as they attempted to climb the final summit - #Ingleborough.
An 06.30 start on the hill meant we had the best of the day's weather before the expected heavy rain and strong winds kicked in as we approached the higher ground. With a combination of David's incredible stamina (the wheelchair is powered, driven and steered by two levers requiring constant use of his shoulders arms and upper body as he has no use of his legs) and a little bit of muscle from the four of us supporting him on occasion we reached the summit at 10.45am.
Despite undertaking the whole descent in foul weather we completed the ascent and descent in under 7 hours - and this on the back of him having done both #PenyGhent and #Whernside yesterday!
Not once did David complain about conditions or how hard the climb was (it was!) and he was constantly concerned for our welfare throughout. Just a real pleasure to spend a few hours with him and help him achieve his remarkable aim - possibly the first person to complete all three Peaks in such a way.
Apparently after a few week's rest his next challenge is a marathon...good luck fella!
