Piping the Pike - Commemorating the 75th Anniversary of VJ Day

An amazing sunrise walk up England's tallest mountain to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of VJ Day. 30 hikers, led by Lakeland Mountain Guides ascended to the summit of Scafell Pike, leaving the base at 02:30am and reaching the top about 2.5 hours later. The morning could not have been more perfect, with an inversion setling in the valleys, little to no wind and a cracking sunrise. At 6:00am the pipers, Robert Procter and Cpl Robert Cunningham of the Royal Marines, played Battle's O'er and would have joined a global movement of pipers playing at the same time.
A stunning morning and an emoional event. The particpants were also glad to raise some funds for the charity Combat Stress in the process.
